CHARLOTTE, N.C. — According one University of South Carolina political professor, Nikki Haley winning the state's Republican primary is "not very likely."
"It's rare, if not impossible, for a candidate to make up that much of a margin, or for a polling error to be that large," Chase Meyer, Professor at USC, said on WCNC's Flashpoint.
Recent polling from Winthrop University shows Donald Trump with strong lead over Haley with about 65% of support from likely GOP voters.
Still, Meyer says Haley could pull out a strong second place finish in her home state and continue her campaign. But, he cautioned she'll need about 40% of the vote to convince donors she still has shot of winning the nomination.
"If that doesn't happen, she might be dropping out sooner than she anticipated.
Early voting is underway for South Carolina's republican primary on Feb. 24th.
